It’s been a while since I’ve posted because I’m lazy and haven’t worked on much lately. (See previous post.) It’s lent though and, while I don’t observe Lent modernly, Gwenlliana definitely would have. So, I’m trying to figure out if Lent was observed differently in the early reformation period. So far, I haven’t had a lot of luck. I’m guessing there wasn’t a lot of difference because King Henry was against most reforms that didn’t involve him being the head of the church or getting money for the monasteries. In fact, he protected some of the churches by labelling them cathedrals. The monks also received a pension from the government even after the monasteries were dissolved.
